Guarding the Depths: Personal Journeys and Global Missions in Shark Conservation

We invite you to a lecture on the international legal protection of sharks, delivered by Dr. Meganne Natali, an expert in this field from the University of Portsmouth, World Animal Justice, and Quatre Pattes.

Description from the Speaker:

The lecture will combine reflections on my own trajectory from academic research on wildlife trafficking into operational policy and governance work, with a broader discussion of why sharks have become one of the clearest illustrations of the structural tensions shaping modern conservation systems. Using examples drawn from international wildlife trade regulation, environmental crime, and current shark protection efforts, the presentation will examine the gap between scientific knowledge, legal frameworks, and actual political implementation, while exploring what meaningful protection of marine biodiversity would require in practice.
