Centre for Legal Protection of Animals & Nature at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Warsaw, invites you to an open meeting with experts on issues related to the presence of wild animals among humans.
The issue of wild animals entering human habitats has been present in public debate for some time. It recently resurfaced with calls from hunting groups to remove wolves from species protection, as well as the controversial urban culling of wild boars and incidents involving bears in the Podkarpacie region. While environmentalists are highlighting the sprawl of cities and the complexity of the synanthropization phenomenon, and animal advocates are raising questions about the possibility of relocating wild animals, local governments and the veterinary inspection are emphasizing the need to ensure human safety.
On May 12th, we will meet with experts to explore the problems associated with the presence of wild animals among humans and how to address them. The aim of the meeting is to create a space for a substantive and balanced discussion on the appropriate direction of environmental policy and the content of the law. Our guests will be:
Dr. Witold Daniłowicz – legal counsel, hunter, author of scientific and hunting publications;
Karolina Kuszlewicz – attorney, author of publications on animal protection law;
Bartosz Kozłowski – pro-animal activist with the Viva! Foundation, urban activist;
Dr. Paweł Pasieka – philosopher, assistant professor at the Faculty of Sociology and Pedagogy of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW);
Dr. hab. Michał Żmihorski, professor at IBS PAN – ecologist and naturalist.
